Obama Professes Admiration For China
Heard on Rush this morning, Obama heaped praise on China for its infrastructure: "Everybody's watching what's going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics , Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business, you're starting to think, 'Beijing looks like a pretty good option.'"
It's easy when you don't have to worry about labor laws, environmental standards, construction buildings that don't collapse. Hell, it's easy when you don't have to worry about a free populous. Besides, it's all a lie as Jim Geraghty shows us. Can Obama really be this dumb...or does he really love tyranny? Labels: Barack Obama, China, Politics, Rush Limbaugh, Tyranny
Thank God For The "Cache"
If it weren't for the cache on Google, we wouldn't have the evidence to prove what we already know: the Chinese government, like all totalitarian communist governments in history, will do anything to a gain propaganda advantage on the world stage. Like the Soviet Union or the East German "ladies" from the 70s and 80s, it's all from the same playbook. Labels: China, Tyranny
A Plan Of Action For Al Gore: Regime Change In China
Al Gore has recently used his celebrity status as the world's Global Warming Czar to offer up a plan to stop using fossil fuels completely in 10 years time. As usual, his ire is pointed right at the United States, but if Gore is really serious about fighting Global Warming and carbon emissions, then he has no choice but to call for regime change...in China. According to the World Bank, 16 of the 20 most pollution emitting cities are found in China. China is run by a totalitarian regime which is going to do whatever it takes to hold onto power and acquire wealth. That includes polluting the planet, which for them is a small price to pay for power and wealth. Thus, the only way to fix these cities and the planet is to topple the regime in China. If Gore is really serious about fighting for the climate, this will be his call, this will be his quests. But wait, maybe his desire is to destroy the United States and its capitalist system. Maybe his desire is to punish the country that denied him the White House. Maybe his desire is power and wealth. If that's the case, then he would generally leave China alone and work toward a United States that looks more and more like China. If he's serious about global warming then he would fight to change China...if not, then I would have no alternative but to assume the latter, that he is out to destroy America. Tell me I'm wrong. Pundits Never Learn: Conservatism Can't Die
There's a big writeup in the New Yorker by George Packer called "The Fall of Conservatism." It's another in what will be a series of obituaries written about the Conservative movement with Republicans ready to take it on the chin in Congress in November and a Republican presidential candidate that has worked tirelessly to destroy his own party. It's a common practice to declare a movement dead during a rough patch. Conservatives were quick to declare socialism dead after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the Democrat Congress in 1994, but alas it's made a comeback from Putin to Pelosi. Everything dies. People, historic buildings (see Las Vegas), ideas...but there certain philosophies or beliefs will always be with us. We give it different names in different eras, but it all comes down to freedom v. slavery. At the dawn of civilization, every man had a choice, would he be a king or a slave. They that became kings were those that were willing to risk their lives to be something other than just another man. They strove for recognition, ego. The slaves on the other hand were not willing to risk their lives for anything and capitulated to the yoke. The major headline in world history: thousands of years ago, around 99% of the population were slaves. Today, only about a third of the population lives under tyranny. As years go by, this black and white develops shades of grey. We use different names for the two factions: royalists v. (classical) liberals, communists v. capitalists, (modern) liberals v. conservatives, postmodernists v. naturalists, and so on. Conservatism is not dead, it's merely on the ropes and can never totally be knocked out. It'll come back in a different form with different faces (Bobby Jindal?), just as Communism has made its comeback in different forms (the environmental movement). Liberty is hard, slavery is easy. This fact makes the birth and continued life of the United States of America all that more awe-inspiring. Labels: Conservatism, Politics, Socialism, The Left, Tyranny
Myanmar Shows Why U.N. Is Useless
Al Gore was quick to blame mankind for the cyclone that killed tens of thousands in Myanmar, but the real man-made disaster is the country's government...if you can call it that. It's a military junta that keeps the people in poverty. If the U.N. was a worthy organization it would be amassing an army right now and preparing to invade the country and take the junta out. Why do we sit around and give legitimacy to a government that doesn't even try very hard to hide the fact that it's a totalitarian dictatorship that makes life miserable for its people? Sovereignty? Please. Any country that enslaves its people is not "sovereign." Labels: Al Gore, Burma, Tyranny, U.N.

Did Jimmy Carter Really Say That?
Apparently: "In a democracy, I realize you don't need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that's the dictator, because he speaks for all the people." Wow. Labels: Jimmy Carter, Tyranny
How Far South Africa Has Fallen
Remember in the 1980s how we spoke out against Apartheid in South Africa and urged the release of the "freedom fighter" Nelson Mandela? Well, Apartheid ended, Mandela was freed...all was right in the world. And then what happened? Today we have Mandela cozying up to every dictator under the Sun and the current president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, visiting Zimbabwe and telling the world that there is no crisis in the country and we should trust the ruthless dictator Robert Mugabe. It was a good thing that Apartheid ended, but all that has happened since is one authoritarian regime has replaced another, and because this current one is dominated by black men, no one says a word. Authoritarianism v. Democracy
An excellent column from Gerald Baker on how Democracy is struggling against the rise of Authoritarianism. A key paragraph: For some time now the modern wisdom that has brought young malcontents on to the streets of London, Paris and San Francisco has held the US and its dependable ally Britain to be the root of all evil. Governments from Beijing to Caracas could trample their citizens into the ground and you wouldn't fill a telephone box with people upset about it. But call for the heads of the warmongers Bush and Blair and a million pairs of brave feet would take to the streets to support you.

Castro Steps Down, What Now?
We've been waiting for almost 50-years. Fidel Castro has announced that he is stepping down as dictator. Apparently, he wants to spend his last 59 years of life in retirement and get some serious "me-time." Well, it's not as good as death, but we'll take it. They keep talking about these "reforms" that his brother Raul, who will take over, wants to implement. Like what? Casual Fridays? All political prisoners get to wear shorts during their daily beatings? Still, I guess it's time to celebrate, but the big day will come when he finally dies. I'll have a cigar at the ready. Marching For Freedom In Burma
