Tom Friedman Lays Groundwork For Obama Victory In Iraq
Hardly surprising. The New York Times knows the score and with victory pretty much assured in Iraq, they are working overtime to make sure Obama and the Democrats get the credit, hoping that we all forget how they worked tirelessly for our defeat. Are our memories short enough to fall for it?
I'm just gonna say it and damn the consequences: Charles Rangel is a crook, but because he's a Democrat and he's black, he will get away with everything and serve in the Congress until the day he dies.
The war that Harry Reid once declared lost has been won, thanks to the resolve of President Bush and his commander on the battlefield General David H. Petraeus. Both men have been slandered by the Democrat Party and the MSM over the past two years, but still they finished the job and millions of Iraqis are now free for the first time. People talk about America's "bad reputation" around the world, but if freeing millions from the yoke of tyranny isn't enough to garner respect, then it's not the kind of respect we need.
Gateway Pundit has a rundown of the blogs celebrating this day.
Introducing the 2012 Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition: The car as individual as the man who drives it. Who else but Iowahawk would have all the details.
(Note: To be most effective, it's best to imagine this post is being read by the narrator of a Blaxploitation movie trailer)
Some sobering words from Rush Limbaugh on his show today:
Should you start treating Obama the way they treated Bush? It worked for 'em, when everybody in the world thought that it wouldn't. It worked for 'em. I noticed Charles Krauthammer on the Fox All-Stars said, "Yeah, it did work for them but we should not do it. Republicans ought not do this." Why, if it worked? The sad thing is, it obviously did. It did not hurt them. All this insane rage and anger, all of these personal attacks... I mean, writing books and movies about assassinating Bush and to have them critically acclaimed! To wish for defeat of the United States in the war on terror, and countless other things I can't even recall now. I just said, "Human nature is such that this is not going to be rewarded," but it was.
Maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was just the power and the charismatic demagoguery of Obama who did not come across as angry. But regardless, we lost, and we are hip deep in doo-doo. We have the most radical leftist extremist disguised as something much tamer and milder, who is insisting on putting an imprint on this country such as it has never had. You think the Great Society and all that stuff was bad and you think Jimmy Carter was bad? These people are going to look at that as kindergarten, Romper Room. They're going to overreach and they're going to destroy a lot of things; and eventually... Those of you who have kids and grandkids, the primary source of your concern is, "What kind of country are my kids going to grow up in? Where will be their opportunity? Is their opportunity going to rest on calling the government agency? Oh, no! We don't want that!"
Well, you voted for it! Or not you, but some people did. So how do we stop the Freedom of Choice Act? We don't, not in the legislative bodies. How do we stop Card Check? We don't. We gave up the chance to stop it when we lost the election, when the Republican Party refused to have an identity, when the presidential candidate refused to even campaign on behalf of other Republicans. You could say we deserve what we got and it might be true, but it's still frustrating as hell. So how do we stop this stuff? The Obama team is going to have three million people whose job is going to be to hassle Democrats who don't toe the line in Congress and in the House.
They're going to threaten them with no more fundraising; they're going to threaten them with being heckled at various public appearances. Folks, we haven't run into anything like this before. So what do we do? Do we march in the streets? Do we call Congress? Do we send out e-mails -- and to whom? Do we send it to our side, or do we send it to Chuck Schumer? Do we send it to Harry Reid and so forth? What are they going to do when they hear from a bunch of angry Republicans that are not going to vote for them anyway? It's sad thing to say, but the best option is to let 'em overreach and screw it up on their own. It will happen, but in the meantime, they're going to get a lot done.
That's going to take a long time to undo, and I'm not trying to depress you or be pessimistic. I'm being realistic here. I'm not saying there aren't ways to beat them. Don't misunderstand. I'm just saying our guys do not have the numbers in the House or Senate to do so, even if they're all unified. They may have some parliamentary procedures to play and things like that, but the way I'm hearing everybody talk right now, I think there's going to be a lot of fear of going against Obama anyway. "The first black president is historic! Why, give him a chance," everybody is saying. He's going to run through that window. He's going to run through that window faster than Deion Sanders. We're not even going to see him go through that window when he gets all this stuff done.
New Jersey Senator Makes 'Playing Dumb' An Art Form
Make sure there is something soft directly under your jaw before watching this video. Neil Cavuto of Fox News interviews New Jersey Democrat Senator Bob Menendez who...well, you just have to see it. Pay special attention to the last 1:00 seconds or so when they talk about how 95% of Americans will get a tax cut.
Obama Supported Pushing Moderates Out Of Democrat Party
You know how every election cycle, the MSM tells the Republican Party how they're too extreme and they need to embrace the moderates of the party link Linc Chafee, Arlen Specter and the like? Funny how you never hear them browbeat the Democrat Party in that fashion. In fact, we often hear that the Democrat Party is very moderate except for a few "passionate" members like Barbara Lee or Pete Stark.
Apparently Barack Obama agrees with this assessment. In 2005, he wrote a blog post at Daily Kos proposing that the party drive out Democrats who "appease the right-wing." Sweetness & Light unearthed the post and Gateway Pundit has the details.
What always cracks me up about these arguments is this notion that the discussion of important issues used to be so much better in the old days. Can anyone recall a great political discussion on the radio from the 1970s or 1980s? Name one. You can't because there weren't many outside of NPR and that's exactly what the socialists want.
Last weekend, Saturday Night Live did a skit about the home mortgage crisis that featured cast members imitating George W. Bush, Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi among others. The skit was surprisingly balanced as it admitted the fact that Democrats stopped Bush from reforming Fannie and Freddie. Skits like this are usually posted on NBC websites, but this one got pulled this evening...the only one removed.
The gang at Hot Air caught on and their boss Michelle Malkin offered a theory tied to another man lampooned in the skit: George Soros.
I think it's a conspiracy and following Andrew Sullivan logic, I demand NBC prove me wrong!
"I've got a pretty long track record covering politics and news, so I'm not particularly worried that one-day blog chatter is going to destroy my reputation," Ifill said. "The proof is in the pudding. They can watch the debate tomorrow night and make their own decisions about whether or not I've done my job."
Ifill questions why people assume that her book will be favorable toward Obama.
"Do you think they made the same assumptions about Lou Cannon (who is white) when he wrote his book about Reagan?" said Ifill, who is black. Asked if there were racial motives at play, she said, "I don't know what it is. I find it curious."
Yeah, I don't know how a title like "The Breakthrough" can be taken as positive. How stupid does she think we are?
Liberals decided years ago that poor people should be able to own homes, free market be damned. So, they passed legislation to force lenders to give money to people that couldn't pay it back. Efforts to try and reform Fannie and Freddie were stalled for years by the Democrats in Congress. These same Democrats are now our supposed saviors who say it's all the fault of capitalism.
Why didn't the "crap sandwich" pass in the House? Did Pelosi blow it?
No, this was her plan, and Obama's. This is about getting him elected. As much as it pains me to say it, the people of this country (for some G-d forsaken reason) still have this notion that the Democrats are better on economic issues, thus the worse the economy, the more apt they are to elect a Democrat to the White House. Obama's poll numbers has climbed since Henry Paulson started his daily freak-outs, have they not?
At least I can still laugh about the downfall of the country. House Republican Leader John Boehner says the bailout bill is a "crap sandwich" but he has no choice but to take a bite and go "mmm, mmm!" when it comes up for a vote. Via the Politico:
In a closed-door session with House Republicans, Minority Leader John A. Boehner just called the financial rescue deal a "crap sandwich" - then said he’ll vote for it when it comes to the floor Monday.
House Republicans are the key to the bill's passage - Speaker Nancy Pelosi said earlier today that it's a "bipartisan" bill and will need "bipartisanship" to pass - and it now appears that a substantial number of them will put cast their votes in favor of it.
According to a source in the room, the plan has so far won endorsements from Minority Whip Roy Blunt, who negotiated it on behalf of the House Republicans; Eric Cantor, the chief deputy whip; and Paul Ryan, a hard-core conservative from Wisconsin who may hold more sway with conservatives on this issue than any other member of the House.
But like Boehner, Ryan wasn't exactly happy about how things have unfolded. Referring to the situation facing the country - and not the bill itself - Ryan said, "This sucks."
We're really in a no win situation with this bailout bill, but the hope for those of us that still value capitalism and liberty was that the House GOP could at least soften the blow. Well, here's what they were able to do (courtesy K-Lo):
1. No ACORN money: All money goes to debt reduction
2. No blank check: Treasury is required to develop an insurance program
3. No union power grab: Dodd-Frank permitted unions to force themselves into the board room. This proposed compromise eliminates that.
4. No "cram down" bankruptcy provision (aka, trial bar giveaway)
5. No tax hikes: The proposed compromise simply requires a proposal to Congress to recoup any potential losses.
Let's hope it's enough. My advice to Boehner and the boys (and girls) is to get this done, go home and campaign hard on the issue. Never make a speech without mentioning the names Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.
Just breaking from Senator Jim DeMint's office. Nevada's biggest embarrassment, Harry Reid, is trying to sneak an oil shale ban into legislation at a time when everyone is preoccupied with the economy. Michelle Malkin has a roundup.
Fox will surely be accused of being in the tank for the Republicans with this report, but I would ask those quick to make that charge, what in this story isn't true? (Hat tip: Ace)
There's a political root cause to this mess that we ignore at our peril. If we blame the wrong culprits, we'll learn the wrong lessons. And taxpayers will be on the hook for even larger bailouts down the road.
But the government-can-do-no-wrong crowd just doesn't get it. They won't acknowledge the law of unintended consequences from well-meaning, if misguided, acts.
Obama and Democrats on the Hill think even more regulation and more interference in the market will solve the problem their policies helped cause. For now, unarmed by the historic record, conventional wisdom is buying into their blame-business-first rhetoric and bigger-government solutions.
While government arguably has a role in helping low-income folks buy a home, Clinton went overboard by strong-arming lenders with tougher and tougher regulations, which only led to lenders taking on hundreds of billions in subprime bilge.
Market failure? Hardly. Once again, this crisis has government's fingerprints all over it.
This has been a rough week for the country and it's been painful to watch. We faced an unprecedented financial crisis that was created by a combination of greed on Wall Street and incompetence in our government. Add onto this the fact that our country is divided ideologically and our so-called guardians of the First Amendment that call themselves journalists have chosen a side in this ideological divide and will lie and cover up information to meet their ends. "It's Bush's fault, it's capitalism's fault, it's the free market's fault." President Bush proposed an overhaul of Fannie and Freddie in 2003 when everyone I knew was buying a house and wondering why I wasn't. Barney Frank, lifetime Democrat Congressman from Massachusetts said at the time there was nothing to worry about and Bush was crazy. How do I know this? From reading "right-wing" blogs, not from NBC, CBS, ABC, et al.
To quote the X-Files, "The truth is out there," but I fear not enough people will get to hear it before November 4.
Lynn Forester De Rothschild. Listen to the whole thing and be sure to catch the very last thing she says to Wolf Blitzer. Priceless: (Hat tip: Gateway Pundit)
It was 7 years ago today that America was attacked by terrorists in New York, Washington, D.C. and over the skies of Pennsylvania. We must never forget what happened and why, and we must also never forget that in the 7 years since this attack there hasn't been one attack on American soil. On September 11th and September 12th of 2001, I had many conservations with people who agreed that America was now another Israel, meaning we would have to live in a world of car-bombs and attacks on buses, trains, coffee shops, etc. Seven years later, nothing. Thank you President Bush for keeping us safe when another political party in this country has done everything it could to prevent keeping us safe.
She's like a frightening amalgam of Forest Gump and Zelig. Whenever there's a disaster coming out of Washington, D.C., Jamie Gorelick is almost always involved. The next administration should avoid her like the plague.
Congressional crook Charles Rangel has admitted he didn't pay mortgage interest on a beach resort property for about 15 years. His defense is basically ignorance. Did I mention he's the Chairman of the Ways and Means tax-writing committee? Oy.
Sickos, but hardly surprising. They've been rooting for American defeat in Iraq, why not another hurricane leveling New Orleans if it earns them some political points. The MSM won't say a word, the RNC needs to hit this hard.
Well, it's been about 8 hours since John McCain introduced his Vice Presidential running-mate Sarah Palin. Here's a short list of what's been thrown at the Alaska Governor is this small time-frame:
1) Daily Kos speculates that Palin's baby with Down's Syndrome is actual the child of her eldest daughter and Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover it up.
2) Wired Magazine reports that Palin wants creationism taught in schools.
3) Florida Democrat Robert Wexler accuses Palin of being a Nazi sympathizer.
4) House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer says Palin is a worse VP pick than Dan Quayle. (If he truly believed that, you'd think he'd be happier)
That's just a short list and all I have the patience for. It's very frustrating to see all this but such is life in America. Gotta walk away from it for awhile, for sanity's sake.
The Dems and the MSM are gonna to be burning the midnight oil tonight trying to ruin Sarah Palin and some are starting off with a little improv. The absolute piece de resistance so far has to be that of Democrat Keith Boykin: (Hat tip: Hot Air)
It's an insult to women. I spoke to several women today at the Democratic National Convention who said it's insulting John McCain would pick somebody - an affirmative-action candidate basically - who is not qualified.
There you have it folks. After 30 years the Democrats are finally against affirmative-action.
It never ceases to amaze how people refuse to see the trash littered about their own yard. Jonah Goldberg caught this review of Joe Biden's speech from Jonathan Chait in TNR (emphasis mine):
What continues to be missing is a frame to explain why John McCain believes all these wrongheaded things he talks about. But it's very simple. McCain used to stand against the ideologues and moneyed interests of the GOP, but he decided that if he wanted to win the GOP nomination, he had to make himself their ally.
Ideologues and moneyed interests? Yes, the GOP has those. Every political party has those. Congress is a cesspool of corrupt lawyers enriching themselves, but to listen to pundits talk it's as if all the evil in politics exist only on the other side. Does Chait really believe there are no ideologues (snort) or moneyed interests (double snort) in the Democrat Party? Or does he believe there are but that Obama is "standing against" them? Either way, it's political blindness of the highest order, or it's simply lies that he hopes will be believed.
About 4 years back, I spent a lot of time studying the art of improv. I took classes with Second City and studied the works of Viola Spolin and Del Close. In improv you play "games." You get a situation and you do whatever you can to keep the situation going with your improv partners. One comedy sketch that is considered the Holy Grail(!) is Monte Python's Dead Parrot Sketch. If you've never seen it, it involves John Cleese going into a pet shop to complain that the parrot he just bought there has died. The shopkeeper, Michael Palin, does whatever he can to convince Cleese that the big is not dead even though he clearly is. Cleese and Palin play this game, going to extremes to prove their point, but the important aspect of the skit is that Cleese is obviously right and Palin's absurdity lends to the comedic situation. Here's just a bit:
Mr. Praline: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this parrot what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique. Owner: Oh yes, the, uh, the Norwegian Blue...What's,uh...What's wrong with it?
Mr. Praline: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!
Owner: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.
Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.
Owner: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
Mr. Praline: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.
Owner: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!
Mr. Praline: All right then, if he's restin', I'll wake him up! (shouting at the cage) 'Ello, Mister Polly Parrot! I've got a lovely fresh cuttle fish for you if you show...
(owner hits the cage)
Owner: There, he moved!
Mr. Praline: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the cage!
Owner: I never!!
Mr. Praline: Yes, you did!
Owner: I never, never did anything...
Mr. Praline: (yelling and hitting the cage repeatedly) 'ELLO POLLY!!!!! Testing! Testing! Testing! Testing! This is your nine o'clock alarm call!
(Takes parrot out of the cage and thumps its head on the counter. Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.)
Mr. Praline: Now that's what I call a dead parrot.
Owner: No, no.....No, 'e's stunned!
Mr. Praline: STUNNED?!?
Owner: Yeah! You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian Blues stun easily, major.
So what's this have to do with the political situation of today? I've been watching (more like reading) the news carefully all week. What I keep seeing over and over again is the Dead Parrot Sketch.
Let's start with Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat and a Catholic, who recently told us how the Church is conflicted on the subject of abortion and that it's been going on for 50 years, the "doctors" at the Vatican aren't sure, but St. Augustine thought life began at 3 months, etc. Several Bishops told her that this is incorrect and the Church has forbid abortion of any kind for nearly 2,000 years. No matter says Speaker Pelosi, she stands by her statement.
No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.
Now we look at MSNBC President Phil Griffin who says that despite spats between anchors, Keith Olbermann calling Democrats appearing on Fox News "Tokyo Rose" and telling Joe Scarborough to "get a shovel," the news network has no ideology.
"Look, when Keith anchors, he plays it straight down the line," Griffin said. "This is our team. They've served us well. We love 'em, and we're going to be at the Republican convention, and it's going to be great. And I don't have any hesitation."
Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!
Here it is at last, the video of the verbal attack on Michelle Malkin outside the Denver Mint. Ah, political conventions do bring out the worst in people, especially from those that need some free advertising for their radio show.
I've been skimming through the various takes on Michelle Obama's speech last night and discovered quite the interesting contrast. Most of the conservative pundits are quick to say that she did really well and look at the speech with some sense of admiration. A lot of the liberal pundits (as expected) wanted more of a fire and brimstone speech like we saw her give in the primaries. James Carville even said the whole night was wasted as the Dems tried to show a kinder, gentler party with less "Bush is the devil" rhetoric. So far, the most interesting take has been Byron York's comparing the two Michelle Obama speeches from last night and the one in Charlotte, North Carolina last May. Which is genuine? Obviously the Charlotte speech, but like good little slaves to the idiot box we believe what we're told. Michelle Obama is a loving mother and a patriot who speaks fondly of the America Dream. Sure, I'll buy that...and the Brooklyn Bridge.
U.S. Sign Missile Agreement With Poland, Democrats Cringe
Welcome to another addition of Retro Theater! On today's show, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visits Poland to sign a missile agreement that will protect the European nation from the Russian Bear. Meanwhile, back in Washington, Democrats are doing what they can to protect the world's largest rogue state.
"Go ahead and move on with research and development," said Representative Ellen Tauscher, Democrat of California, who is chairwoman of the House subcommittee that oversees the missile defense program. "But as far as putting holes in the ground in Poland, we are saying no."
The Democrat Majority Leadership in the House has made clear it will not allow a vote on Mike Pence's bill to permanently ban the Fairness Doctrine. The reason being, too many Democrats might vote in favor of it, so democracy must not be allowed to take place. This means that the November elections will decide if the Fairness Doctrine will be reinstated or not. If the Dems keep a majority and Obama is elected, the Fairness Doctrine will be reinstated. Obama has said he's against it, but that is a lie. If they have the opportunity to squelch free speech on the political right, they will do it.
If Republicans did something like this with a group like the Contras, it would be a full Washington meltdown in the MSM, but don't expect to see this reported in many places.
From Gateway Pundit: Nancy Pelosi was sending messages to FARC through a surrogate, Congressman Jim McGovern while she was at the same time blocking a free trade agreement with Colombia.
A lot of talk about Wesley Clark's recent comments that John McCain isn't really tested as far as executive experience goes. "I don't think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president." Clark is no stranger to making dumb statements and it's all the more interesting given the fact that during his short-lived run for President in 2004, he was kind of the Obama of that period. Despite being white and former military, I remember when he got in the race and many of my Democrat friends were smitten...he's so smart, they told me...he's brilliant, finally someone we can believe in! Truth be told, he's about as sharp as a boiled egg, much like our current Messiah. Now that's not to say Clark and Obama aren't book smart and have a certain degree of cleverness. They'd have to to get where they are, but there's a special category of intelligence that only a handful of people in the arena possess. Clark proves time and again he's not one of them. It's a combination of intelligence, instinct and pragmatism. Reagan had it, Clinton had it. The Bushes? Eh...came close at times, but definitely second-tier.
Why are people fooled? Because they see what they want to see. Obama is constantly flubbing on the campaign trail, whether it's flip-flopping on the Second Amendment or public campaign finance, but all the while, he's dubbed brilliant. Who was it that said 'we need another word for hero'? I propose we need another word for brilliant.
Yesterday, we were inundated with stories about Congressional Democrats chastising the oil companies for not drilling on federal lands that they have under lease. Known Stalinist Maurice Hinchey even called for nationalizing refineries. Now we have the "Use it or lose it" bill:
House and Senate Democrats are complaining that U.S. oil companies are not drilling on 68 million acres of leased federal land and waters.
"At a time when our constituents are paying $4 per gallon at the pump, the answer is to make sure that oil companies are producing on the land they currently own," four leading House Democrats wrote in a letter to colleagues. "They need to either use it or lose it." The four House Democrats - Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts, chairman of the Select Energy Independence and Global Warming Committee; Natural Resources Chairman Nick J. Rahall II of West Virginia; Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois; and Maurice D. Hinchey of New York - said they will introduce a bill that would raise lease fees for oil companies not drilling on leases they hold.
They also said they will cosponsor an existing bill (HR 6251) that would bar oil companies not drilling on current leases from getting new ones.
Democrat Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut has introduced similar legislation (S 3133) in the Senate.
"The vast majority of oil and natural gas resources on federal lands are already open for drilling, and they are not being tapped," Dodd said June 12 on the Senate floor. "I hear complaints about the 1.5 million acres closed off in ANWR [Arctic National Wildlife Refuge], and yet we are sitting on roughly 68 million acres under lease but not in production - why don't they talk about that?"
Why indeed. Well, there's an answer to this, but don't expect to find it in any MSM reports. I had to do several searches this morning to find someone who had reported the appropriate response to this idiocy. It comes from Drew Cline of the New Hampshire Union Leader.
Rep. Carol Shea-Porter wants Congress to fine oil companies that don't develop federal land they've leased. But it's not that simple. There are many legitimate reasons why a leased plot might not be developed.
For starters, it might not have oil under it. Leases of federal land are speculative ventures. The oil companies are hoping to find oil, but it takes years of geological surveying, testing, and environmental studies before drilling can even begin. Short-term leases are three years, long-term ones are 10 years. A company cannot simply begin developing leased land because Congress is impatient. It takes time.
And what if you do all the work of surveying, testing and environmental studies, get ready to drill and your lease runs out? The oil companies are then left at the mercy of Congress which may pull the rug out from under them, thus millions if not billions of dollars go down the drain. Also, even the New York Times is willing to admit that there is a huge shortage of drilling ships.
This is not to say the oil companies are as pure as the wind-driven snow, but they are businesses and businesses aren't in the business of spending money when there is little guarantee of a return. Better to drill for oil where you know for certain there is oil than to invest huge sums on land leased from a entity like the United States Congress that seeks to do you harm.
Via Hot Air, there have been rumors that Republicans have a videotape of Michelle Obama railing against "whitey," but now Democrat operative Bob Beckel is dropping similar hints which lends credence to the rumors. He says it could be as early as tomorrow that "the other shoe drops." It could just be "hot air," but let's hope not.
They say "the truth hurts," and today we see a textbook example. President Bush made some comments from the Israeli Knesset today that have the Democrats up in arms. It's statements like this that show just why I voted for George W. Bush twice:
Speaking before the Knesset, Bush said that "some people" believe the United States "should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."
"We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is - "the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
A-men. Absolutely 100% right. Naturally, the Democrats find this outrageous, Joe Biden even going so far as to call it "Bullshit" (sorry Mom). Even though Bush didn't mention Obama's name, the Democrats are calling this an attack on Obama, proving they know damn well that he is an appeaser.
"President Bush got it exactly right today when he warned about the threat of Iran and its terrorist proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. It is imperative that we reject the flawed and naïve thinking that denies or dismisses the words of extremists and terrorists when they shout "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," and that holds that—if only we were to sit down and negotiate with these killers—they would cease to threaten us. It is critical to our national security that our commander-in-chief is able to distinguish between America’s friends and America’s enemies, and not confuse the two."
I didn't watch the Democrat Debate last night...I've been having stomach issues lately and thought it a little risky, but Captain Ed over at Hot Air has written his analysis and declares McCain the big winner:
The winner of this debate? John McCain. Both Democrats came out of this diminished, but Obama got destroyed in this exchange. If superdelegates had begun to reconsider their support of Obama after Crackerquiddick, they’re speed-dialing Hillary after watching Gibson dismember Obama on national TV tonight.
And kudos to ABC News for taking on both candidates fearlessly. John McCain has to feel grateful not to be included.
Crackerquiddick? I hadn't heard that either, but apparently it's a word invented by Captain Ed concerning Obama's recent insult to small town America which I'm starting to think may be his biggest mistake. Most people don't know who the Weather Underground were and Rezko is too complicated and common in the age of Jack Abramoff for people to take much notice.
It should also be noted that hard-left TV critic Tom Shales is raging mad at ABC for their "treatment" of the candidates. That tells you that they had a rough night and came off pretty bad.
Meanwhile, McCain can just sit back and watch the carnage. He may end up being the luckiest man that ever lived.
Neal Boortz gives us a quick lesson on how one Congressman, in this case Minnesota Democrat Jim Oberstar, can single-handedly make a mess of the airline industry.
